Silver barnacle heart pendant, sandcast recycled 925 necklace

Beautiful barnacle heart pendant, sand cast in recycled silver.
This sterling silver necklace has been designed by the maker by sand casting real barnacles in silver (see them on my fingertip in the photo with shells) then re arranging them in a multi-step process to create the heart shape.

The pendant suspends from a 18" sterling silver chain by a handcrafted bail and features an ocean wave on the reverse.
The barnacle heart measures 15mm at it's widest point and has an overall drop of approximately 20mm from the chain.

Please note that as each pendant is made to order using the ancient technique of sandcasting, small variations will occur resulting in slight differences from the pendant photographed eg. tiny pits in the silver from grains of clay.

  • Jewellery Care

    • Remove before showering or swimming.

    • Store in a sealed bag or box to avoid the silver tarnishing.

    • Avoid contact with harsh chemicals.

    • Clean regularly with a polishing cloth.

    • If you prefer the sea glass to look less frosted, dab a drop of coconut or baby oil onto the surface.

  • What is Sandcasting?

Sandcasting is an ancient technique which dates back 3500 years but the more modern practice of using Delft Clay instead (which I use) was invented by a Dutch Goldsmith named Hans Karremen.

The delft clay is so fine, it produces a really detailed casting, perfect for my favourite lucky cowrie shells. The shell is sandwiched between two cylinders of delft clay then removed creating a cavity into which the molten silver is poured.

  • Delivery

I endeavour to dispatch 'made to order' items within 5-7 business days of purchase upon receipt of payment and they will be posted by Royal Mail. Should the maker need longer to make the item, the customer will be notified.

  • Made to Order

Please note that as each piece of jewellery is made to order and therefore unique, small variations may occur resulting in slight differences from the photographed jewellery eg. There may be tiny pits in the silver from grains of clay or the shape might differ very slightly.
